Don’t look back comrade, the old websites are behind you..

Hello and welcome to the eighth incarnation of crimethinc.net! Things have changed significantly around here, so take a look at the CrimethInc.Net/work Crash Course to get up to speed on the new framework that’s in use here. Briefly though, the two biggest differences between crimethinc.net 7.x and crimethinc.net 8.x are:

A) The switch a two-tiered content system. If you’ve frequented this site at any point in the past five years, you’ve probably had the experience of wading through pages of content to find what you were looking for. For a long time, it was thought that this was an issue of organization; that providing better categorization of content and new technologies like tagging would alleviate sifting through irrelevant content. Not the case, when users are given the responsibility to sort content and fail. From now on, individual site users/collectives will take total responsibility for their own blogs, which will function independent of each other, but feed content back onto the main crimethinc.net page (and eventually entered into a sitewide tag cloud á la Flickr; we’re not there yet though). If you’d like a blog, get in touch, we’d like them to be open to people with good ideas and follow through.

So, in order to provide much more control over individual blogs, we made B) The switch to Wordpress-based content management. Wordpress Multi-User and bbPress are much more up to the task of managing the content on this site than the current version of Drupal (which we still love—really baby, it’s not you it’s us).

We’re still getting comfy in this new system (hell, I’m typing this and we’re still in Closed Alpha testing stages), and as always are open to suggestions. Wish us luck; with any this should be up and running in no time..
